Climate Change Actions to Reduce Food Waste

In Episode #74 of Judith Guerra Wellness Connections podcast, I focus on various ways that we as individuals can improve our relationship to our responsibility to assist in alleviating some of the things that contribute to climate change. Below is a brief summary of the topics discussed.
My heart goes out to the people who have suffered from the challenges of climate change, most recently in Los Angeles, California. I am a Climate Change Advocate and will continue to help with information that can make a difference in these most challenging times.

Podcast Focus – Summary:

1) A glimpse at the relationship between climate change, greenhouse gases and Food waste .

2) Of the 2.9 trillion pounds of food that is available worldwide every year, about 1/3 of that quantity eventually goes to Food Waste.

 3) Both Food production and Food waste are involved in the creation of greenhouse gases.

4)  Food waste is a double contributor because it creates greenhouse gases when produced,  and then it creates greenhouse gases as Food waste.

3)  An important point that one way to avoid some of the Food waste is to not “over consume”.

4)  In the event, that we do “over consume”, we can help to alleviate actual hunger in the world by contributing/donating our “over consumption” foods, so that it gets into the hands of those who can use it as “food proper”, and avoid that part of the creation of greenhouse gases.  This lessens the role that Food Waste plays in the production of greenhouse gases and the harmful role that they, in turn, play in climate change.

RECYCLING FOOD WASTE for OUR PLANET’S HEALTH with Climate Action Tips

News we can use 🙂

During the holiday season, it’s common to purchase more food than we can consume. This presents an opportunity to use leftovers creatively, reducing food waste and its impact on climate change. My most recent podcast Episode #72 (Judith Guerra Wellness Connections) discusses what COMPOSTING is and why we want to participate in taking steps to employ this sustainable method of climate action to help with climate challenges. The NRDC  (the Natural Resources Defense Council) states what COMPOSTING provides: “positive ways that protect the planet’s wildlife and wild places, and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water and healthy communities.”
